Girl found dead under mysterious circumstances

ITANAGAR, Oct 19: In a brutal reminder of the unsafe condition and danger facing womenfolk of the state, one 13-year-old girl, namely Bomrik Kali of old Dari village under Basar has been found dead in a mysterious circumstances in the evening of October 13 at around 7.30 pm near Nyigam village. Locals claimed that the body bore assault marks drawing suspicion that she might have been killed after rapping.

She was a class VI student of Govt. Secondary School Dari. An FIR has been lodged at Basar police station in this regard.

While talking to this daily, officials of Basar police station informed that four persons have been arrested on suspicion and police is making all efforts to solve the case. However, they refused to comment on rape charge and stated that all the evidence have been collected so as to ensure that truth prevails.

Galo Students’ Union president Damik Gameh while condemning the incident has appealed to parents to take proper care of their children, especially teenagers, who are vulnerable to evil practices, like drugs addiction, alcoholism etc which is becoming a threat to tribal society.

Basar Area Students’ Union (BASU) and Dari Area Students’ Union have also expressed shock and anger over the incident.

 

BETAPF protests against establishment of army camp at Pagi village

ITANAGAR, Oct 19: Basar Ego Tirbin Area Peoples’ Forum (BETAPF) has protested against the proposed land acquisition for establishment of army camp at Pagi village, Basar.

In its letter to the West Siang Deputy Commissioner, the Forum lamented that, the local administration, despite knowing the fact that majority of the land owners and the poor villagers had been opposing to the proposal since 2003, is going ahead with its decision.

The villagers from surrounding and adjoining areas are dependent upon this land for their daily needs like firewood, building materials and other non-timber forest produces, it said.

If constructed, the Army camp will affect the Bugo Nallah and the Bugo WRC fields, pollute the Kidi and Hire rivers and cause massive deforestation in the area, the Forum said, and suggested for establishment of the camp somewhere beyond Siru village.

 

Association calls for protection of Dharia Hill

ITANAGAR, Oct 19: Expressing concern that illegal hunting, fishing and timber cutting may affect flora and fauna of Dharia hill area, the Dharia-Hill, Donyi-Polo Forest Care Association has urged the state government to take steps to check such activities.

Steps, such as awareness campaigns, establishing check gates, appointment of security guards and engaging the farmers to protect their area can be taken up to stop such illegal activities, the association said in a release.

 

GSU rejects clarification

ITANAGAR, Oct 19: The Galo Students Union (GSU) has rejected the clarification given by the office of ADC, Kamba.

In a press release, ADC Kamba had claimed that he and the ADO, Kamba had no role to play in collection of 3.5% money from the beneficiaries.

But, GSU claimed that about 100 beneficiaries, in their signed complaint letter to the Union alleged that the ADO, Kamba was the person, who had received 3.5% money from the beneficiaries at ADC office complex, Kamba.

While reacting to the press statement of former minister Lijum Ronya and Youth Congress leader Nyamar Karbak, GSU suggested both the elders not to politicize the issue which has been taken up by the union in the greater public interest.

The GSU welcomed the constitution of a committee to look in to the matter relating to return of payment under the chairmanship of Gedo Kato.

 

ACS demands details of inspection report

ITANAGAR, Oct 19: Angry over the alleged dilly dallying tactics adopted by authority concerned to give details of the inspection conducted by Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goel after the alleged embezzlement of Rs. 10 crore in ‘Navi Mumbai lease agreement’ signed between the state government and US Roofs Ltd on October 12, 2007 for construction of Arunachal Guest House cum Emporium in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, the Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) has demanded the Chief Secretary to provide the details of the inspection report within seven days. ACS in a release claimed that it had applied through RTI seeking details of the inspection report from the Chief Secretary (CS). However, the application has reportedly gone missing from the office of the Chief Secretary, the ACS release said quoting the CS as saying.

 

Sanjoy pays last respect to Taki

AALO, Oct 19:  MP Takam Sanjoy has paid floral tribute to the mortal remains of Tabin Taki at his native place Pangin, 71 km from Pasighat, East Siang here today afternoon.

Sanjoy met the better-half of the deceased Mrs. Jhony Taki, his children and conveyed his deep sense of condolence to the bereaved family and assured all possible help from his end.

Sanjoy was accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary (Home) Gadam Ete, Industry Minister Tapang Taloh, APCC and APYC leaders. The leaders also observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

 

Cleanliness drive

DAPORIJO, Oct 19: A mass social service was conducted under the initiative of Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner to clean the Daporijo town area today.

All the drains and nallahs were cleaned and garbage collected from the road side were disposed of with help of DUDA labourers during the day long cleanliness drive.

All the temporary pigsties near the airfield were also dismantled and roadside vendors were advised to shift to the designated market place.

Deputy Commissioner Tahang Taggu also actively participated in the social service by cleaning drains and collecting garbage.

Public, Govt. officers and officials from various departments, members from different NGOs participated in the social service.

Meanwhile, the students of Govt. Higher Secondary School and staff also organized a social service separately today at District Hospital and their school premises. More than 1000 students, who actively participated in the social services, were divided into two groups for the social service. They cleaned the hospital surrounding by collecting garbage lying here and there and threw them in waste disposal area.

The DUDA Deputy Director appealed to the public to cooperate and participate in such social services to make Daporijo one of the most hygienic towns in the state.

 

AAPLU submits memo to AH&Vety minister

ITANAGAR, Oct 19: All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU), in a memorandum, has urged Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister for inclusion of its representatives in the DPC meetings of his department so that they can raise the Union’s various issues such as promotion of W/C enrolment etc. The other demands of the union included, approval of provision of head counting system in the department, sanctioning of bachelor barrack for the labourers, regularization of services of casual/contingency staff and creation of ‘C’ & ‘D’ posts and clearance of pending files.

 

NPF reiterates demands

ITANAGAR, Oct 19: Reiterating its demand to the state government that furnishing documents such as PRC and land allotment certificates for obtaining ST certificates etc should not be made compulsory for the indigenous tribal people of the state, the Nyishi People Forum (NPF) has threatened to launch democratic movement, if its demand were not met.

Also expressing disappointment over the cost of a land allotment form which is Rs 250 per form, it further demanded not to delete the names of persons from the electoral rolls without his/her knowledge.

ITANAGAR, Oct 19: The students of the Govt. Hr Sec. School, Polo Colony, Naharlagun conducted a social service to clean their school premises today.

Led by the school captain, the students also planted saplings of different species in their school campus.

Arunachal will soon become favourite destination for Bollywood film makers, says Vivek Oberoi

TAWANG, Oct 19:  Bollywood heart-throb Vivek Oberoi pointed out that the state of Arunachal Pradesh and picturesque Tawang district in particular could become hot destination for Bollywood film makers in the future. Oberoi who air-dashed from Mumbai today attended the curtain raiser event of Tawang Festival-2013 which begins tomorrow.

Speaking from Tawang War Memorial, Oberoi, whose forthcoming movies include much awaited Krrish 3, stated that Arunachal Tourism under the leadership of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki could undergo a sea change to become global tourist destination as well as prime target of Bollywood film makers to shoot films.

“Arunachal is blessed with unparallel scenic beauty, perennial streams, snow clad mountains, lush green valleys. All these qualities make it perfect destination for every travelers,” said Vivek.

The Grand Masti actor informed that Switzerland became most sought after tourist destination in the world just because of shooting of Bollywood films.

“We spent millions of rupees in shooting films abroad, but we can shoot same films here in much lower cost. Moreover, the people here are so welcoming and warm that would make our job easier,” the actor said without mincing any words.

Applauding the mystic beauty of Tawang, Oberoi announced that he would be back soon with his entire family to explore the natural beauty of Arunachal Pradesh. He credited his visit to Nabam Tuki, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, who had invited him during his recent Delhi trip.

Chief Minister Tuki, in his address, urged Oberoi to become the brand ambassador of Arunachal Tourism and promote the state, known as ‘Last Sangri La on the Earth’, at global level, particularly in Bollywood in the greater interest of the country. Tuki underscored that superstars like Oberoi can play a pivotal role in promoting this beautiful frontier state for enhancing socio-economic and cultural ties not only with the rest of the country but across different parts of the world.

While welcoming Oberoi on behalf of the people of Tawang and the state, the Chief Minister highlighted the fact that although Tawang has become one of the leading tourism destinations in the country much more remains to be done to realize its full potential. He also pledged the support of his government towards any future Bollywood movie projects in the state.

“Arunachal is no more a hidden paradise rather it is a global tourist destination,” said Tourism Parliamentary Secretary P D Sona, adding that Tawang would soon become a Bollywood destination because of Oberoi.

Earlier, Oberoi interacted with the cultural troupes, school students, the locals and personnel of the security forces. Later, a colourful cultural display to showcase the cultural mosaic of Arunachal tribes, besides band display by 190 Mountain Brigade of the Indian Army added flavor to the programme.

ITM begins to highlight tourism potentials of the region

TAWANG, Oct 19:  Chief Minister Nabam Tuki inaugurated the Second International Tourism Mart (ITM), 2013 in Kalawangpo Conference Hall here today.  

Organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India in association with eight Northeastern states and West Bengal, the main obejctive of the ITM is to highlight the tourism potentials of the region in the domestic and international markets. The event will also facilitate interaction between buyers, sellers, media, Government agencies and others.

Speaking on the occasion, Tuki said that the Mart would realize its objective to project Northeast India as one of the most sought after tourist destinations in the world.

“Northeast India, particularly Arunachal Pradesh with its flora and fauna, rich biodiversity, the ethnic communities with their rich cultural heritage, lifestyles, festivals, arts and crafts, the inherent qualities of its people, such as hospitality, festivities and love for music and culture, is indeed an ideal place for the tourists,” Tuki said. He also said that the region is India’s treasure house for adventure sports, like mountaineering, trekking, white water rafting, angling etc.

“With such diversity not only in its geography but also in our way of life, the Northeast India has a lot to offer to any tourist visiting this part of the country,” Tuki said.

Informing that his government is putting all efforts for promotion of the tourism sector by improving roads and air connectivity, the Chief Minister hoped the tourism sector will create massive self- employment opportunities in the state in days to come.

He sought cooperation from international and local media in promoting tourism sector of the region.

Later, Tuki inaugurated the exhibition stalls put up by nine participating states to showcase their tourism destinations and to interact with the delegates.

Union Tourism Secretary Parvez Dewan, while reiterating Centre’s commitment towards the North East states for infrastructure development, particularly in tourism sector,  informed that though the region represents only 4% of the country’s population the government of India spends 56 percent of the budget for the North East states.

Conveying message on behalf of Union Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi, Dewan said the  Govt. of India is serious about the promotion of the northeastern states.  

He also assured that Centre would extend all possible help for beautification of Tawang. He, however, sought cooperation from the people in developmental activities.

Later, responding to media persons query, he stated that sufficient fund would be allocated to the region for all round development, including the tourism sector.   

State Tourism Minister Pema Khandu in his address exuded hope that the ITM-Tawang would create platform for buyers, sellers and stakeholders to network and generate business. While quoting the world famed travel magazine, which termed Tawang as “Last of the great Shangrilas,” Khandu highlighted the mystic beauty of Tawang and Arunachal before the visiting dignitaries and participants.

Girish Shankar, Union Additional Secretary of Tourism said of the ITM  that it was the Central Government’s vision to promote Northeastern part of country, which is popularly known as “Land of Paradise Unexplored.”

The first ITM was held in Guwahati in January, 2012.

Sixty-eight participants from abroad, including tour operators, hoteliers, media persons and government officials of 23 countries are participating in the ITM.

State Tourism Secretary Sonam Chambey highlighted the tourism potentials of eight NE states and West Bengal through power-point presentation during the technical session.

Tourism Ministers of Nagaland and Sikkim, EE Pangteang and Bhim Dhungel, Parliamentary Secretaries Jambey Tashi, PD Sona, Tsewang Dhondup, and Chairman, Department of Karmik and Adhyatamik Affairs TG Ringpoche attended the inaugural programme, among others.

 

 

Kaso inaugurates AAPDDWS office

ITANAGAR, Oct 19: “Differently abled people too have the diverse qualities as average people. They are sometime unnoticed by normal people in the office or in society, but they too have same right in democratic country like India,” said Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso while inaugurating the office of the All Arunachal Pradesh Deaf & Dumb Welfare Society (AAPDDWS) at Press Colony, Naharlagun on October 12 last.

While sharing the emotion and miserable condition of the parents of differently abled children, Kaso said that, some of the children are deaf or dumb by birth, others have medical or physical problem but we should face the condition through soft and caring way.

While appreciating former Chief Minister Gegong Apang for running the school for hearing impaired with full dedication since its inception, he said many children of the school have not only learned abc but serving the state in many Government offices.

Responding to a one-point memorandum submitted by AAPDDWS president Tagam Dasi and General Secretary Techi Takar for providing a plot of land to the society for construction of houses for AAPDDWS members, the MLA assured to look into the matter.

Founder advisor to AAPDDWS Achu Bagang said there are certain talented members in this group who needs encouragement from both  public and Government. While advising the parents, he urged them to give love and affection to such children.

He further said that government should do something for differently abled people for their livelihood. He lauded parents for encouraging their differently abled children. Donyi Polo Mission School for Hearing Impaired, Chimpu, Principal In-charge S. Tenzing said that people of the state will surely help this group of people if the purpose of society is positive. He encouraged the society to organize cleanness drive, free blood camps and avoid collection of donation.

Members from Donyi Polo Mission School for Hearing Impaired and Women Wing AAPDDWS presented cultural programmes. Koj Tayo also presented some magic items on the occasion.

 

 

Shooting of Adi film on Anglo-Abor War begins

PASIGHAT, Oct 19: The shooting of Adi feature film on Anglo-Abor War directed by Nepthelee Megu began at Yagrung village on the outskirt of Pasighat town Thursday.

While briefing the synopsis of the film, the young director from Mirbuk village said the film will mainly focus on anti-British activities by Abor (Adi) warriors during Bitbor Mimak (1858), Bongal Mimak (1859), Nijom Mimak (1894) and Poju Mimak (1911-12), the last Anglo-Abor war in the Abor jungles.

The director is planning to complete the film within this year. He received support from the state’s Art and Culture department for making the film. Some MLAs and ministers from Adi belt and well wishers have also assured him of all possible support and assistance from their side.

Tasi Nonang of Bilat Bamin village is playing the role of Matmur Jamoh, who assailed British Political Officer Noel Williamson during the 4th Anglo-Abor War (Po:ju Mimak).

Revika Rukbo and young singer Omin Ering are the assistant directors of the film.

Meanwhile, Megu appealed all sections of the society to extend support, cooperation and necessary suggestions in making the first ever war film in the state.

The film would be made in Adi language with English and Hindi sub-titles, the director informed.

It is worth mentioning here that the ‘Poju Mimak Centenary Celebration Committee (PMCCC)’ in collaboration with ‘Paator Gumin Heritage Preservation and Research Foundation (PGHP&RF)’ conducted the Centenary Celebration of Poju Mimak (4th Anglo-Abor War) at Kebang Poglek village in East Siang district during early December, 2011 and commemorated their unsung heroes, who fought valiantly against the Britishers and sacrificed their lives for protection of their motherland.

Shooting of the film was also held at Pagla Korong portion of Yagrung hill site today.

The shooting for rest part of the film will be held at different places in Upper Siang district.

 

 

MLA lauds SSB’s role in empowering youths

LUMLA, Oct 19: Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) set up in early 1963 in the wake of the Sino-India War to inculcate feelings of national belongingness in the border population and develop their capabilities for resistance through a continuous process of motivation, training, development, welfare programmes and activities has made a huge difference in the life of the people living in the border areas, said Lumla MLA Jambey Tashi.

Lumla in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh is located along the Indo-China border.

Addressing the concluding function of Samajik Chetna Abhiyan, being celebrated by the SSB to mark its golden jubilee of service to the nation, Tashi lauded the SSB for its activities in skilling the local youth, providing them various assistance and sending them to various parts of the country on exposure trips.

Giving a chronological history of SSB which had started its activities in the then NEFA, North Assam (northern areas of Assam state), North Bengal (northern areas of West Bengal), hills of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Ladak. It was later extended to the other border areas of the country, the people of Tawang, particularly Zemithang circle, who were witnesses to the Chinese aggression, are fully aware of the invaluable services the SSB personnel rendered to the people living in the most difficult border areas against all odds to serve as the sentinel of the frontier.

He extended his gratitude to the force for becoming the friends of the hill people through their yeoman’s service by wearing a human face while serving the nation.

“We the border people find in SSB an ever willing friend. We have no words to reciprocate our feelings except that our hearts are with you. Those serving with SSB from different parts of India are not necessarily acquainted with the very strenuous hard border life. But you people serve us to at the call of duty,” Tashi added.

SSB commander Rajiv Rana pointed out that from earlier role of spreading the spirit of patriotism among the border people, its role has changed to guarding the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan borders now. However, the SSB continued to take up various civic action programmes for the greater welfare of the people reflecting its commitment for the welfare of the people, the commander said and sought the support of the local MLA for facilitating more such events.

Samajik Chetna Abhiyan aimed at SSB’s commitment to continue to be friend of the border people, Rana added. He also announced to take rain shed in three villages and toilets in two villages. SSB assistant commandant Khandu Glow pointed out that he had taken nine days to travel to Lumla from Zemithang which takes four hours now. This could be possible because of the attitude of the people, he said and exhorted the people to make Lumla a model town.

The stalls set up by the SSB for the four-day programme included photo and weapons exhibition, CSD canteen, free health check up camp, disaster management unit besides the stall of NGO Pragya which provided kits for testing anaemia, NHPC besides an exhibition on hydropower had set up a medical camp assisted by the  BRO’s doctor Navneet Choudhury.

The commander and the MLA gave away awards to the winners of various competitions organized for the event, memento for excellent service, besides solar lights and vegetable seeds to the poor villagers, books to the local schools.

 

 

West Siang Women Welfare Society office inaugurated

AALO, Oct 19: The newly constructed office building of the West Siang Women Welfare Society (WSWWS) was inaugurated by West Siang Zilla Parishad Chairperson Yaman Bagra amid huge gathering.

Addressing the gathering, Bagra appreciated the efforts put in by the women group to mobilize fund to establish its own office and said it will go a long way to act as the platform for the women to carry out its activities. The women have a very vital role to play in the present day society and require fund mobilization to carry forward their activities. Govt. alone cannot mitigate their needs and time has come for us to form Self Help Group to garner funds and go for women related schemes to do away our dependence syndrome, she continued.

President, WSWWS, Karngam Ete dwelt at length on the activities of the women and efforts made to mobilize fund to construct the office building of its own.

The Society recalled and appreciated the efforts  put in for the cause of women by then DC Marnya Ete, Jumda Rike, Er. Ngomdir. Marme Loya, Jumken Ete, Dongam Nyodu, Dr. Monya Jini and Y.Lollen . They also prayed for speedy recovery of ailing former president and women activist Jumbom Ete.

Teacher arrested on rape charge

RUKSIN, Oct 19: Ruksin Police today arrested an assistant teacher serving at Niglok Upper Primary School under Ruksin block with charge of sexual assault on a minor girl of his own school.

According to report, the teacher on Friday allegedly took the 10-year-old girl to Ruksin market on the pretext of taking photograph, enticed her by offering sweets and allegedly raped her in the backyard of the Industrial Complex at Niglok.

The incident came to light last evening when the girl told her mother about the whole incident. Her parents immediately lodged an FIR with Ruksin police station against the teacher and demanded his immediate arrest.

Ruksin police booked the rapist teacher under section-376(F) IPC and RW section-6 of POCSO, 2012 (P.S- Case No- 28/2013) and remanded him to judicial custody.

The incident has left everyone shocked and angry.

Terming the incident as “inhumane” and “barbaric”, the Niglok Mohila Somity, Adi Bane Kebang (Women wing) and others have urged the administration to conduct a free and fair trial so that the offender gets stringent punishment as per law.

They also demanded his immediate dismissal from service for the heinous crime.

 

 

Hard work never goes unrewarded: Ering

PASIGHAT, Oct 19: “Hard work never goes unrewarded,” stated Union Minister Ninong Ering while addressing the 47th College Annual Day of Jawaharlal Nehru College here today.

Expressing that the achievements of the college are praiseworthy, Ering lauded the faculties and students of the institution for their untiring efforts for making JNC a vibrant and advancing educational institution in the state.

Stating that the college has so far produced many scholars, administrators, eminent writers, journalists and leaders, he exhorted the academicians to maintain work culture, discharge duty with dedication and live up to the society’s expectations.

Ering sanctioned Rs one crore on-the-spot for construction of additional hostel buildings and another Rs one crore for extension of college buildings from his discretionary funds.

Taking privilege of the occasion, Ering informed that Multi Sectoral Development Programme (MsDP) under the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs doesn’t encourage conversion in Arunachal Pradesh.

“I am an Arunachalee tribal by birth, live as tribal and will die as tribal. Motive of my ministry is very clear and we should come together for development of our state,” Ering said.

The MsDP is a centrally sponsored scheme and the Central Government had identified many blocks as minority concentrated areas in the state based on deficiency in the socio-economic and basic amenities parameters, he said.

He further clarified that no outsider but only the local people of identified blocks are entitled to avail the schemes and it would not encourage conversion.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Srivastava while delivering few words of advise to the students urged them to be sincere, dedicated and hardworking for a brighter future.   

Principal of the college Tayek Talom highlighted the various achievements of of the college and stressed on maintaining strict discipline by all.
